Peni Candra Rini and Sekar Setaman — the Brown University Javanese Gamelan Ensemble, performs a concert at Grant Recital Hall at 7pm on Friday, December 5.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Sekar Setaman is under the direction of I.M. Harjito and performs instruments made by the Solonese gongsmith Tentrem Sawwanto in 1997-98 especially for Brown. Sekar Setaman, which means “a garden of flowers,” can be symbolically interpreted to mean the harmonious coexistence of different people and different opinions in tolerance and unity.
