Setan Jawa by Nugroho is a silent film accompanied by a powerful live score composed and performed by acclaimed Indonesian composer and singer @penicandrarini, alongside @amcgrawrva. Drawing from Indonesia’s pre-orthodox Islamic mythology, the film explores the seven pacts between man and the devil in pursuit of wealth, with music that heightens the story’s mysticism, sensuality, love, and sacrifice.
Featuring 60 artists and 80 performances, The Dark unfolds across music, dance, theatre, film, installations, and genre-defying works that resist easy definition.
